What Is a "Female-Friendly" Shop?

by Michele Hoisington

So let's face it ladies, taking the car in for maintenance and repairs is right up there with picking up Fido's yard deposits.  You don't want to do it, but it HAS to get done eventually.  You know the longer you wait, the worse it's probably going to be.  If you don't have a father, husband or boyfriend to pawn it off onto, it's all up to you!

Why do we dread the task so much?  Let's start with an example of a not-so-female-friendly shop.  Let me preface this by saying that obviously not every shop out there is like this, but they do exist (so no offense guys).  My first job after high school was as a parts runner for an auto supply store many years ago, so I've seen this scenario play out firsthand at various repair shops.

When you finally decide on a shop, it's time for the moment of truth.  If you have ever walked into a grimy, smoke-filled, closet-sized office with pin-up calendars behind the counter, you know what I'm talking about.  Being the only female in this male dominated business can be a bit disconcerting and intimidating, and heaven help you if you have questions that are met with the rolling of eyeballs!  Before you know it, you've left the keys to your baby in the greasy palm of someone you hope knows the difference between an air filter and oil filter.  Again, just a worst case scenario observation!

In contrast, a female-friendly shop like Coastal Car Care will treat you with the respect you deserve from car care professionals.  From the initial phone call to when you drive away satisfied that your car was repaired properly at a fair price, your satisfaction is our primary goal.  Our friendly staff will answer all your questions up front with no intimidating faces or comments - we promise!  In fact, we go out of our way to make sure you understand what your vehicle needs and why.  Curious to see the mysterious inner workings of your car?  Great!  Not sure how to check your oil level?  No problem!   Educating our clients is something we take great pride in.   We don't hide our mechanics or their work from you.  In fact, we feel that having direct communication with your mechanic fosters the trust we strive to earn from all our clients.  And you can forget the pushy or unnecessary up-selling.  It won't happen here.  Period.
