Michele Hoisington was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska where she grew up riding snowmobiles in the winter and dirt bikes in the summer. As a teenager, she would frequent the local cruising strip on “Northern Lights Boulevard” in her first car, a 1975 Dodge Colt. One day in 1979, an old friend of hers would introduce her to some gear head showing off a custom built ‘67 Chevy Camaro, and the rest is history.   

Michele grew up always inquisitive about how things worked, especially her first car.  She discovered that testing how fast a four-cylinder car can go by flooring it on a downhill on-ramp (100 mph) came with a steep learning curve. Her first full time job was as an auto parts driver in Anchorage.  She later filled a receptionist position within the same company, which became her first stepping stone of many in the business world.

Although Michele didn’t know it at the time, her years as an admin assistant in different business settings would come together and help shape her future as a successful business woman.  Before the opportunity to start Coastal Car Care arose, she had experience with two sole proprietorships of her own which gave her the confidence to take on the responsibilities of starting and running a shop with her husband, Glen.  

Michele continues to be the glue that holds the whole operation together and is incredibly thankful to have a business that allows her family the opportunity to work alongside each other every day. “None of us take it for granted and we cherish the rarity of what we have as a very close family.”

When Michele’s Colt finally bit the dust for the last time (after two engine rebuilds), she traded it in for a brand new, bright blue 1981 Toyota pickup truck.  Thanks to Glen’s ingenuity, it has undergone many transformations over the years, including from a 2WD to 4WD, and a 4-speed to a 5-speed, to an automatic, and back to a 5-speed.  Michele’s “first born,” is now lovingly known by all as “Old Blue” with over 300,000 miles.  

As a side note, Old Blue was there when Shawn and Cory went from riding in their car seats as babies, to learning how to drive a stick in the desert, and later off-roading with friends.  Yes, we still have her and she’s in some of our photo galleries!
